Federal Grants For Small Business
Find Federal Grants For Small Business
Federal grants for small business are all the buzz with websites and television ads that use hype to try to sell some magic formula for getting one of these grants. The problem is, these grants are not offered through the federal government.
Now this does not mean that grants for small business do not exist, it just means that there are no federal grants for small business at this time. However, there are many other ways for a small business owner to get grants to open or expand their business. Many states offer grants, low interest loans, and other types of financial aid to entrepreneurs in need of funding.
If you own a small business and need capitol to grow, or are just dreaming of owning your own business one day, there may be hope for you. Even though there are presently no federal grants for small business, you may still qualify for grants from not for profit organizations or even your state or local government. Grants are usually given for specific purposes, so if you do not find a grant that you are eligible for right away, keep trying. You never know when something is going to come up that you are a perfect candidate for.
A great place to start looking for small business grants is the Small Business Administration. They will tell you right off that there are no federal grants for small business, but they will then try to steer you in the right direction as far as finding funding for your business venture. There are usually grants available for women business owners and minority business owners, so if you fall into one of these categories, be sure to let someone know. There may be a grant available to you that would not have been otherwise. If there are no small business grants available at the time of your search, the SBA may be able to help you obtain a low interest small business loan.
If you do find a grant that you think you may be eligible for, be sure to give yourself plenty of time to fill out the application correctly. Most grant boards will disqualify an application if it is not filled out fully or if there is something missing that was requested in the grant. Grant applications are not easy to complete. Even though the grant applications are not for federal grants for small business, they are still official documents that need to be treated as such. The old saying, “nothing comes without a price”, is true here. While it may not cost you in money to obtain a grant, it will cost you at least a few hours of your time if you want a real shot at being awarded grant money.
